Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata
ABS-CBN’s classic “Abangan Ang Susunod Na Kabanata” is a political satire in the 90s that depicted the lives of the common “tao” and their interactions with the demi-gods of Philippine politics. It shows the funny side of the state of Philippine affairs while creating an awareness of the current state of the country. The characters include the corrupt Congressman Anding Tengco (and his dysfunctional family), dirt-poor Sammy Lagmay (who has a nagging wife portrayed by Winnie Cordero), Tita delos Santos (the social climber) and Benny dela Croix (the gay beautician).
Sic O'Clock News
Sic O'Clock News is an irreverent newscast program in the late 80s (post-People Power I). It poked fun at politicians with an in-your-face type of comedy that tackled even the most sensitive issues like the US-Philippine bases agreement and the skyrocketing prices of commodities. Among its cast were Jaime Fabregas, Joji Isla and Manny Castañeda.
Severino “Nonoy” Marcelo is best known for creating the cartoon character Ikabod Bubwit (small rodent in English) in the comic strip Ikabod. The strip humorously illustrated the socio-political woes of ordinary Filipinos, as represented by Ikabod, who became iconic in his own way. Marcelo often used the Ikabod comic strip to portray political figures—from Ferdinand Marcos and Cory Aquino to Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo—re-imagining them as mice.
