Public torn over Miriam's 'bias' in Corona trial
MANILA, Philippines - Is Senator-judge Miriam Defensor-Santiago favoring the prosecution or the defense in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona?
People think she is doing both, according to a national poll.
A survey of 1,500 Filipino adults conducted by Laylo Research Strategies from January 28 to February 6 showed that 18% of respondents believe that Defensor-Santiago is biased against Corona.
She topped the list of senators perceived as favoring the prosecution. The top 3 in the list include Franklin Drilon (11%) and Francis Escudero (5%).
Around 39% said none of the senators favor the prosecutors.
Meanwhile, Defensor-Santiago also topped the list of senators who are perceived as favoring the defense.
Around 6% of the respondents believe that Defensor-Santiago is biased in favor of Corona.
Senator Joker Arroyo placed second with 4%. Around 58% said none of the senators are biased in favor of Corona.
Santiago also topped the list of senators whom people see as having no bias at all in the impeachment trial.
Two other senators, Juan Ponce Enrile and Francis Escudero, placed second and third on the list, respectively.
Asked to judge the fairness of the senator-judges, 47% of the survey respondents said they are undecided. Some 34% said the senator-judges are objective while 17% say they are not.
Around 86% said they will respect whatever the Senate decides in the impeachment trial.
In recent days, the prosecution has been at the receiving end of Defensor-Santiago's ire for their alleged shortcomings in the trial.
The senator-judge, however, said that she has not decided yet on the case.

"I have not made up my mind. I am keeping an open mind until the very end of the trial," she said on Twitter.
"But it's clear to me, as a former trial judge, that the prosecution is unprepared. It is unfair to the side that they represent," she added. "Hindi pa natin alam kung gaano kagaling ang depensa. Kung pareho silang hindi magaling, equal lang sila."
"Pero kung magaling ang depensa,yan ang sinasabi ko sa prosekusyon, pagbutihin nila ang ginagawa nila.They cannot be babied in the courtroom," Defensor-Santiago said.

My advice to you Miriam, ay huminahon ka, keep your cool. Huwag kang arrogante, escandalosa, gregarious, abusive, dispicable, tactless, ruthless, at domineering. Relax at dahan dahan lang ang pananalita baka mahulog na yang posteso mo. Mapahiya ka pa sa madlang people. Hinde lang Pilipinas ang covered ng internet kundi boong mundo. Huwag parating galit, parating stressed out, huwag kang highly strung. Na parang ikaw ang sikat diyan sa Senado. Tingnan mo ang kapwa mo senators mahinahon silang lahat except you and you alone na escandalosa. Hinde sila hina highblood na gaya mo at relax sila.
Kaya magbago ka na, basahin mong mabuti at isa-isahin mo ang mga negative comments sa iyo sa blog na ito. Gawin mong salamin ito, kung ano ang paningin at masamang feelings namin sa iyo ay ganon ka sa mga mata namin na hambog. Huwag kang mag provoke na magalit ang mga tao sa iyo. Hala ka, Miriam, ikaw rin at kawawa kanaman. Baka ka ma massive stroke at sumunod kay Iggy Arroyo. Sayang na sayang ang talino mo pa naman sa juresprudence. She called other senators in many occasions (forums) as "gago" where's the character of this girl? is that the words used by intelligent people? i think it's used by delusional trapo like her! Let's trace this trapo's balimbing records. When Erap became president this trapo was in his side and when Erap went out then gloria went in this trapo sided on this little girl.
