'Why Mayweather should pay attention to Pacquiao-Mosley fight'

MANILA, Philippines - Floyd Mayweather Jr. wasn't at ringside during the much hyped megabout between his former opponent "Sugar" Shane Mosley and Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao, the man who many see as his equal if not his superior in the boxing ring. Instead of watching the fight, Mayweather said he would watch Lady Gaga's concert on HBO.

One Filipino boxing analyst, however, said Mayweather could get some pointers in Pacquiao's dismantling of Mosley and might even find a key in defeating the now undisputed pound-for-pound champion.

Boxing analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz said Mosley spent more time running than actually fighting after Pacquiao floored him in the third round.

In comparison, Mosley actually stunned Mayweather during the second round of their match last year. Mayweather, however, was able to dominate the latter rounds and defeat Mosley.

"When Mayweather fought Mosley, he didn't win such a lopsided decision. Mosley looked better against Mayweather than he looked against Pacquiao," he told radio dzMM.

Nathanielsz, however, said Mayweather could decide to fight Pacquiao after seeing the People's Champ fail to put away Mosley via knockout.

"If I was Mayweather, I would think - if Mosley can survive Pacquiao and I am a much better defensive fighter than Manny Pacquiao, I can survive Pacquiao and I could probably beat him. With $50 million hanging there, I think he might decide to say 'Yes. Let's go. Let's get it on,'" he said.

The boxing analyst said Pacquiao tried to put on a good show for his fans but Mosley was unwilling to get hurt.

"Manny wants to entertain the fans because he knows they paid money and then Shane did not want to engage. After the 3rd round knockdown, he just got the fear. He didn't take the money and run. He ran and then took the money," he said.

Is Manny slowing down?

Despite Manny's impressive win, he also showed some flaws during the match including seemingly slower hand speed. Nathanielsz said these flaws should be immediately corrected for the next fight.

"Manny's moves were OK but his hand speed was a bit slower. Maybe he could be overtrained. It was 8 solid weeks of training, From Day 1, he was training very hard. And then they wanted to strengthen his body. Sometimes, maybe with all the strength conditioning exercises you do, you can't have everything. You kind of slow down a little bit. You tighten up especially at that weight," he said in the interview.

He also said Manny's lifestyle -- of juggling careers as a congressman, singer and endorser -- could be taking a toll on him.

"He goes out and does various events. His resistance is low. People are going to get infections. He had to meet and greet so many people. One week ago, he had an infection in the throat. That was 1 week before the fight. Conditioning coach Alex Ariza was so concerned they had to bring in a doctor to check some kind of infection. When that happens, it weakens you. It weakens you no matter what," he said.

Nathanielsz said leg cramps also impeded Pacquiao's movement during the fight and stopped him from pressing his attack against Mosley. On the other hand, he also said he heard Mosley say after the fight that he couldn't walk.

"He can't walk because he'd been running the entire fight," he said.

Pacquiao will kill Marquez

Nathanielsz said Juan Manuel Marquez being a lock as Pacquiao's next opponent could be bad news for the Mexican fighter.

Marquez's first fight against Pacquiao in May 2004 ended in a draw while the second match in 2008 ended in a win for Pacquiao.

Nathanielsz said a Marquez-Pacquiao match is appealing because their first 2 fights were very close.

"The American media will think Pacquiao-Marquez would be a good fight because the first 2 fights were close and controversial. Now though he will have to fight Manny at 147 lbs not at 132 lbs. Manny is stronger at 147 lbs. He's comfortable with the weight. If Marquez wants to fight Manny, he would have to move up in weight and that's his problem," he said.

"If he fights Pacquiao at 147 and Pacquiao is in great shape because he wants to shut the mouth of Marquez, Pacquiao might be charged with manslaughter. He'll kill this guy," he added.

Nathanielsz said Pacquiao has publicly stated that he will fight for another 2 years. Top Rank boss Bob Arum said he wants Manny for another 6 fights.

The problem, however, is that Pacquiao is fast running out of opponents especially since some of his challengers are in higher weight classes.

Is Pacquiao the greatest?

Pacquiao, however, is not running out of challenges in the political ring.

Now working as a congressman of Sarangani province, the People's Champ could also be setting his sights even higher in the next election.

"He's a congressman. I know and I can sense he's aiming for higher public office. That means his name has to be in the spotlight, in the public eye all the time and the best way to keep it there is fighting and winning. Then he has some momentum for his future political career if that's what he wants to do," Nathanielsz said.

The analyst said Pacquiao's greatness is already assured even if he doesn't run for senator or even president of the Philippines.

"Greatness is a combination of your ability and performance in the ring and your humility outside and inside the ring. That is where Pacquiao excels. He's such a nice humble person. He doesn't degrade his opponents. Muhammad Ali called Joe Frazier a gorilla and dubbed Floyd Patterson an Uncle Tom. Manny doesn't look down on his opponents. That's what sets him apart," he said.

Mayweather vs Pacman will never happen....

I’m pretty sure Mayweather was closely monitoring every fight of Pacman ever since.
For a very good reason, he won’t fight Pacman even a bait of $50M on his mouth.
Because of his current title “Unbeaten Boxer of History/Century” (century is exagges).
Fighting Pacman is not an option, if he does and lose the fight, his title at stake, he will be dethroned, he will be humiliated, he will be dishonor, and most of all he will be forgotten.
So let’s forget Pacman & Mayweather fight, it will never happen.
