For a few nervous hours into the night Metro Manilans pondered if history will repeat itself and, like a cruel stroke of luck, a similarly devastating typhoon will wreak havoc in the capital exactly two years after Typhoon Ondoy did.

For a few Metro Manila residents, Typhoon Pedring did. Although the typhoon made landfall about 250 kilometers away in Isabela and Aurora, its 170kph winds and torrential rain inundated parts of Manila, Malabon and Marikina, a storm surge flooded a large portion of Roxas Boulevard and evidences of the typhoon's fury in fallen trees and billboards were scattered all over the metro.
