Anti-RH bill supporters seek 'divine intervention', tweet Pope
MANILA, Philippines - Only “divine intervention” can now help halt the passage of the reproductive health (RH) bill, which is virtually a go after it was approved on second reading at the House of Representatives early Thursday.
In an interview with Radio Veritas, Human Life International Philippines director Dr. Rene Bullecer said: “We have to continue praying, maghihintay lang tayo ng divine intervention, I know God will do something before Aquino sign the RH into law, We need to intensify more our prayer and information campaign para along the way, people will come to understand more na evil ang implication ng RH bill.”
At past 2:00 a.m. on December 13, 113 lawmakers voted “aye” compared to the 104 of the “nays” on the RH bill.
Marbel Bishop Dimualdo Gutierrez said the 113 lawmakers’ faith may not have grown over the years since they were baptized in their childhood.
He said the Church should continue its catechism, especially in this “year of the faith,” for those who have left their religious beliefs.
“I am very happy for the 104 who voted against the RH bill, they are our enlightened people, I am sad regarding the 113 who voted yes for the RH bill, why I am sad? because most of them were baptized Catholics, but after their baptism perhaps no more ongoing formation, wala na hanggang diyan na lamang sila, they did not grow in their faith, kaya siguro this Year of Faith is very important,” he also told Radio Veritas.
Amid the awaited discussion at the Batasan Pambansa, the anti-RH bill advocates took to Twitter to send their appeal to Pope Benedict XVI.
On Wednesday (Philippine time), the head of the Roman Catholic church tweeted for the first time with: "Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart."
In a report from the CBCP News, Filipinos immediately responded.
“The Prolife Dad” (@prolifedad) called on the Pope to “please remember in a special way the Philippines! #NoToRHBill.”
Whilssy Candelaria (@whilssy) said: “@Pontifex #pray for the #Philippines Pope as we face this Spiritual battle against #RH bill.”
Trish Castro (@teachertwish) also called on “Oh sweet Vicar of Christ! Please pray for the Philippines that the Reproductive Health Bill not be passed! #notorhbill.”
