PNoy asks for shortlist for Corona replacement

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino has asked his legal advisers to come up with a shortlist in case embattled Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona is removed from office.

Aquino told ABS-CBN News in an exclusive interview that he is not yet looking at Corona's immediate replacement but wants to be ready in case the Chief Justice is removed.

"Wala pa tayo doon," he said. "But we, I did remind my legal advisers kung saka-sakaling mangyari yang sitwasyon na yan, give me the shortlist already of people that we can consider for that position."

When asked if he wants Associate Justice Antonio Carpio as Corona's replacement, Aquino said, "There's no shortlist yet."

"Pero I can assure everybody that the criteria na, di ba parang sunud-sunuran sa lahat ng gusto mo, is not ano, is not an operative thing," he added.

The President said he is open to choosing a new Chief Justice from outside of the present Supreme Court en banc.

Lynda Jumilla's full interview with Aquino will be aired on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) on Tuesday, December 27, at 6:30 p.m.

Opposite sides

Meanwhile, 2 prosecutors in the impeachment trial of former President Joseph Estrada will find themselves on opposite sides during the trial of Corona at the Senate.

Lawyer Mario Luza Bautista made his debut on national TV during Estrada's impeachment trial from December 2000 to January 2001.

As a private prosecutor, Bautista drew out the testimony of Equitable Bank vice-president Clarissa Ocampo on Estrada's alleged multimillion-peso secret bank accounts.

Bautista will return to the impeachment stage as lead prosecutor in the trial of Corona, 2 sources have separately confirmed to ABS-CBN News.

Bautista has accepted the offer to be lead prosecutor. - ANC

I could not understand why Mr. Erine Tanada was chosen as one of the lower house prosecutor in the CJ Corona empeachment trial where infact, he flunk the bar for the third time.Now, he was given a very delicate and sensitive position to face to face with all the brillant lawyers of CJ Corona. I doubt if he can answers all the cross examniations questions from the defense counsel of CJ Corona. I could not undertand either why Mr. Kiko Pangilinan a two times bar flunker from UP College of Law doesn't want to inhibit from the empeachment trial of CJ Corona may he doesn't understand the law on inhibition. Shame to both of you Erine and Kiko. Bar Flunker!!!
