The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said a total of 28 people quarantined for exhibiting flu-like symptoms have all tested negative for the deadly influenza A(H1N1) virus.

Dr. Eric Tayag, chief of DOH's National Epidemiology Center, said the latest patient cleared from the deadly virus was a four-year-old girl in Naga City in Camarines Sur province.

Tayag said the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) came out with the girl's negative flu test result on Tuesday night.

The girl arrived from San Diego, California last May 7. She was well and passed the thermal scanners at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Three days after arriving in Naga City, the girl fell ill, raising fears that she could have been an H1N1 carrier.

Tayag said that aside from the girl, 27 more people quarantined for H1N1 suspicions have been cleared by the RITM.

"Wala pa ho tayong kumpirmadong kaso kumpara sa Thailand na nag-report na ng dalawang unang kaso nila (We still have no confirmed [influenza A(H1N1) virus] case in the Philippines compared to Thailand which has confirmed two cases)," the DOH official announced over ABS-CBN's morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda."

Tayag said the DOH is still on high alert to prevent the virus from breaching the country.

The World Health Organization said there are a total of 5,251 confirmed human case of influenza A(H1N1) virus in 30 countries, with 61 deaths.

Majority of the confirmed cases were recorded in United States and Mexico.

Tayag advised Filipinos and tourists that have just arrived from abroad to monitor themselves for at least two weeks before mingling with people.
