A 69-year old councilor shot and killed his girlfriend before committing suicide in Mendez town, Cavite province Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Senior Inspector Egbert Tibayan, Mendez police chief, identified the victims as Councilor Enrique Nuestro of Barangay Anoling, Cerca 2 and Regina Bunag, 24, an entertainer and a native of General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite.

Tibayan said the two had a heated argument before Nuestro shot Bunag inside her apartment in Zenisal Compound, Interior Barangay Galicia 2.

Teresa Mahusay, also an entertainer and a housemate of Bunag, said she saw Nuestro pulled out his .45 pistol and shot Regina to the head while they were talking in front of the dining table.

“Nagtatalo sila. Parang gusto nang makipaghiwalay ni Regina kay konsehal  hanggang sa magkasumbatan sila (They were having an argument. It seems Regina was breaking up with the councilor),” Mahusay said in her affidavit.

After shooting her girlfriend, Nuestro took her body in his arms and then shot himself with the same gun.

The lovers were rushed to Ospital ng Tagaytay, where doctors declared Bunag dead on arrival. Nuestro died minutes after.

Police have recovered the gun and two spent shells at the crime scene.
