Amit posts 2nd win in Women’s 10-Ball
The Philippines’ top-ranked lady pool player, Rubilen Amit, clinched her second consecutive victory Wednesday after beating Chinese Taipei’s Su I Yun, 5-1, at the JBETpoker.net Women’s World 10-Ball Championship.
The event is being held at the Sky Dome of SM North Edsa in Quezon City.
“I’m slowly getting comfortable. I’m usually a slow starter and I think with two wins already, I can make it to the next round, and hopefully go farther in the tournament,” Amit told BilliardPhilippines.com.
She lost her first match against World No.1 Kelly Fisher of the UK, 1-5. She then beat Singaporean Charlene Chai, 5-1.
Amit, 27, is the 2007 World Women’s 9-Ball runner-up. She is also a three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
Meanwhile, the youngest competitor in the tournament felt the pressure as she lost in her second match.
Filipina Gillian Go, 11, was defeated by World No.5 Yu Ram Cha of South Korea, 5-2.
The incoming sixth grader earlier beat Lyndall Hulley of Australia, 5-3, in her debut match.
Another local bet, Iris Ranola, won over Korean Hyun Jin-won, 5-4. BilliardPhilippines.com reported that Ranola must win her next two matches because she lost twice in the opening day.
Mary Ann Basas, meantime, triumphed in her first match, 5-1, against Japanese Akimi Kajitani.
The JBETpoker.net Women’s World 10-Ball Championship is televised over ESPN Star Sports and ABS-CBN.
It is supported by the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines and recognized by the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines.
