Bacolod resto serves up 'giant pizza'
BACOLOD CITY - Imagine a pizza, big enough to engulf your table, oozing with bubbling cheese and loaded with your favorite toppings.
This is precisely what you'll get if you order the "Grandiosa Super Pizza" from Mamma Maria's Pizzeria along Lacson-Burgos Street in Bacolod City.
Measured at a hefty 52 inches in diameter, the pizza is so large, that when it was served on a small round table at the restaurant, customers who attended the pizza product's launch on Friday could have mistaken it for a tablecloth.
The restaurant's manager, Sheila dela Torre, said this may be the largest commercial pizza being sold in the Philippine market as yet.
"The biggest commercial pizza is 48 inches in diameter. That was [baked] in 2001 [in America]. And it comes with four different flavors in one order because it would be boring to eat a giant pizza which has one flavor," she said proudly.
Customers can choose from a variety of flavors, from classic meat and vegetable toppings, to all sorts of wacky ingredients like crocodile meat, "kilawin" (or raw fish slices soaked in vinegar), and large "siling labuyo" or chili peppers.
Dela Torre said that the "Grandiosa Super Pizza," priced at P1,000 to P5,000 depending on the flavors, is perfect for large gatherings like birthdays or parties since it can easily feed more than 40 people. The restaurant encourages customers to order it ahead of time, however, since the pizza pie takes about an hour to prepare. Report by Marty Go, ABS-CBN Negros.
