MANILA - Three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Rubilen Amit of the Philippines edged Shin Min Liu of Taiwan in a thrilling finals match on Saturday to become the first JBET Poker.net Women's World 10-Ball champion.

The Filipino cue artist defeated the finalist from Chinese-Taipei 10-4 to secure the victory at the Sky Dome at SM North Edsa in Quezon City.

Amit quickly asserted her dominance in the match by posting a 3-1 lead against Liu in the opening racks.

After the Taiwanese cleaned up Rack No. 5, the Filipino claimed the next two sets to keep herself ahead, 5-2.

Tension went up on Rack No. 8 when both contenders engaged in a battle of safeties. Liu prevailed in the set to play catch up, 5-3.

After letting Amit take the next set, the Taiwanese claimed Rack No. 10.

However, that was the last time Liu ran out the table in the match up as the Filipino zoomed ahead to win the remaining sets.

With the win, Amit pocketed the $20,000 top purse and claimed the honor of being the first Women's World 10-Ball champion.

Liu, meanwhile, settled for the $9,000 second prize.

Before reaching the finals, Amit disposed Akimi Kajitani of Japan in the semifinals.

Liu, for her part, eliminated Jamin Ouschan of Austria to forge the finals match up with Amit.

A host of foreign players joined the inaugural Women’s World 10-Ball where a total of $75,000 was at stake.

Among the contenders were Women’s World No. 1 Kelly “Kwikfire” Fisher of UK, 9-Ball champion Allison “Duchess of Doom” Fisher of UK, former No. 1 Jeanette Lee of the US, and Jasmin Ouschan of Austria.
