A priest from the Jesus the Nazarene Church in Binmaley, Pangasinan bagged one silver and two bronze medals at the recently-concluded World Taekwondo Culture Expo in South Korea.

Fr. Rojohn Ramirez, who was the only representative from Region I, spent eight days in South Korea along with 44 other Philippine team delegates.

Ramirez said he could not explain the happiness and honor he received as the South Korean tournament was his first time to join an international competition.

“Kapag nakita nila ang flag mo sa Philippines, dagdag puntos na ‘yun dahil alam naman natin na gumagawa talaga tayo ng pangalan pagdating sa sports,” he said.

Despite being a taekwondo expert, Ramirez said his priesthood remains his top priority.

“Buti nga pinayagan ako ni Archbishop na pumunta doon eh,” he remarked.

According to Ramirez, he just wants to promote the sport because taekwondo highlights the importance of health, fitness, as well as the discipline that has to be instilled in every athlete.

Ramirez is back to celebrating masses and teaching taekwondo especially to children. Report from Kori Quintos, ABS-CBN News North Central Luzon
