On the birthday of the late former United Nations Secretary General Carlos P. Romulo (Thursday, January 14, 2009), presidential candidates will face-off once again in a forum on domestic and policy issues that will be aired live on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).

“The primary purpose of the forum is to elicit from each candidate his specific policy ideas and solutions to major problems and challenges of national life today,” Ambassador Roberto R. Romulo, Chairman of the CPR Foundation said.

Organized by the Romulo Foundation in cooperation with ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), the forum will focus on the broad theme, “Philippine Credibility and Competitiveness in the World”, and seek policy responses from the candidates on issues revolving around global competitiveness.

The forum will take place on Thursday, January 14 from 10 am to 12 nn at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).  It will be aired live on ANC cable news channel as well as on Studio 23 free television. It will also be streamed live for free on www.abs-cbnnews.com/ancliveevents.

Candidates who confirmed their attendance so far are Sen. Manuel Villar, Sen. Richard Gordon and former defense secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

Romulo said he hopes the forum “will assist voters in reaching a decision on who to vote for” since it will be “the first ever debate on domestic and foreign policy” among presidential candidates in the May elections.

The issues to be discussed include the Maguindanao massacre and the wider challenge of peace in Mindanao, Philippine foreign relations and international security, Philippine economy and international economic relations, policies concerning migrant workers and Philippine competitiveness in the world.

The forum will be moderated by Ricky Carandang of ANC. A question panel composed of Ambassador Rodolfo Severino, head of ASEAN Studies Center, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Philippine Star Editor/Columnist Amy Pamintuan, and CNN correspondent Jaime Floro Cruz will take turns in directing questions to the candidates.

Organizers of the forum said the event will be attended by the business and diplomatic communities, the media and the general public. At least 20 ambassadors are expected to attend. – abs-cbnnews.com

Man-up Candidates!!!

About time this puro yabang candidates man up and present their platforms of governance to the people, to the business and the diplomatic community. Show us what you really are made of at hindi puro bunganga lang. Akusa dito akusa doon, paninira dito, paninira doon, papogi dito, papogi doon. Show your wares to the real world at nang makita ng tao kung sino talaga ang karapat-dapat. Ang pagiging pangulo ay hindi dapat kinukuha lamang sa paggamit ng emotion ng mamamayan. Pandaraya at panlilinlang ang tawag dito. We the new voter power are watching you!

To the Editor of this article. Please correct the info about Carlos Romulo, He served as the President of the Fourth Session of United Nations General Assembly from 1949-1950, and chairman of the United Nations Security Council but never as Secretary General. Thank you
