NAIA guards, officials deny blame for brawl
MANILA, Philippines - Airport officials have cried foul over accusations that their security personnel did not do enough to stop the brawl between columnist Ramon Tulfo and celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto.
The guards themselves said they should not be blamed for the incident.
"Ginawa po namin ang trabaho namin pero parang kami pa yung masama," one guard said.
"Dinuro-duro ako ni Raymart sabi wala akong kwenta. [Sabi ni Raymart] Kunin ko daw yung cellphone [ni Tulfo]," another guard added.
Manila International Airport Authority general manager Jose Angel Honrado said airport security did their job.
"I had to disagree that my staff were inutil. They did what they had to do to pacify them. These are not children. Anong gusto nila posasan sila?" he said.
Connie Bungag of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport media affairs office echoed Honrado's statement.
"From our point of view, (the security guards) did their job," she told ANC's The World Tonight.
Bungag said says they're still gathering statements from people involved, as well witnesses in the incident.
CCTV footage would have helped the investigation, but the security camera in the area where the fight happened wasn't working. - ANC
