Enrile defends Martial Law
MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile defends martial law, saying it had to be implemented in 1972 due to the growing communist insurgency and Mindanao conflict.
On ANC's Talkback, Enrile asserted that he neither followed nor implemented any illegal order.
Enrile also denied plotting a coup against former President Cory Aquino in 1986.
The coup plot, then known as "God Save the Queen," led to tighter security in Malacanang and the sacking of Enrile as Aquino's defense secretary.
Enrile also bared his plans after the 2013 elections and what he intends to do when he retires in 2016. - ANC
