Padaca: PNoy promised to pay my bail
MANILA, Philippines - Incoming Comelec Commissioner Grace Padaca on Thursday said President Benigno Aquino already promised to pay for her bail in May.
The former Isabela governor was accompanied by Interior Secretary Mar Roxas as she posted bail at the Sandiganbayan Thursday.
President Aquino paid her P70,000 bail out of his own pocket.
In 2006, Padaca was accused of graft and malversation of funds by former Isabela Rep. Santiago Respicio for her role in an allegedly anomalous hybrid rice project for the province's farmers.
A warrant of arrest for Padaca has been out for 4 months. However, Padaca filed a motion with the Supreme Court questioning the basis for the indictments.
Now that she's with Comelec, Padaca assured she will not favor any candidate despite her association with the administration's Liberal Party.
"President Aquino already committed last May he will pay my bail if needed," she told ANC Prime Time.
"We have records to prove money did not go to me but to the farmers," she added.
Respicio said she won't file an opposition against Padaca's appointment. - ANC
