Can Peace be Achieved in Maguindanao?
MANILA, Philippines - The Maguindanao massacre was triggered by two clans' struggle to gain power over the province.
This kind of conflict is not exclusive in Maguindanao but local leaders in other provinces have found a way to maintain peace among clans.
In an interview on ANC's Talkback with Tina Palma on Monday, Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez said their peace program not only involved residents but local authorities and insurgents as well.
"First thing we did was invest in the culture of peace training where we invested in leaders and developed what we call peace and development advocates in every barangay, even went to the extent training our army, police together with the MILF..." Dominguez said.
Sarangani was among the recipients of the "Galing Pook Award" for its peace efforts.
The Galing Pook Foundation honors yearly outstanding practices of local government units ranging from peace and conflict resolution to environmental management.
Another awardee is Tabuk in Kalinga Province where Mayor Camilo Lammawin Jr. combined traditional ways of resolving conflict with local government institutions.
"Ten years ago Tabuk was dubbed as the most dangerous place in the Cordilleras because of so many killings, tribal vendettas... so we helped organize all these tribes. A tribe has Bodong holders, the peace pot holders... so we had to organize these Bodong holders and have to meet them thru Bodong warming wherein two tribes meet again, renew their peace pact..." Lammawin Jr. said.
Former Congressman Nereus Acosta who is also a member of the National Selection Committee of Galing Pook said the awardees were successful in their peace efforts due to their innovations.
He however admits it could take time before peace can be achieved among the Ampatuans and Mangudadatus in Maguindanao.
When asked if martial law is the solution to the Maguindanao massacre, Dominguez said it is, so long as its implementation is only temporary.
"On the short term, as a party we support martial law, given we dismantle, disarm every single person in Maguindanao to level the playing field. Second, those responsible should be arrested and charged, once we achieve that, martial law should be lifted as soon as possible."
But Lammawin Jr. and Acosta are against it.
They believe government can solve the killings and prevent further violence without martial law.
Despite opposition from various sectors, martial law stays in effect in Maguindanao.
But whether or not this will actually solve the Maguindanao massacre and stop the violence in the province remains to be seen.

Q: Can there be Peace in Mindanao?
A: That’s a wish that all the Mindanaoans want.
Q: Is it feasible?
A: Only if the Luzonians permit
Q: Why?
A: It is because ultimately it’s the description of Luzon that can change the Mindanao situation. Not until the National Government (which is dominated and dictated by the Luzonians), Mindanao won’t have any peace.
Mindanaoans (both Muslims and Christians) are striving to work towards Peace and Unity for so long already yet their efforts do not materialize because the National Government does not permit it so. If it is not being noticed yet by the general public, there are always war, kidnappings, tragic events, and etc every time there are chaoses in Malacañang. Some people call it coincidence yet if you are part of the regularly affected by these frequent incidences; you will call it “tragic as usual”.
The Ampatuan Massacre may be easily pinpointed to the Ampatuans to the naïve eyes, yet if you will study the in-depth Mindanao history and the series of national events before and after the massacre, surely you will think twice.
‘Hope these political grand standing will end.
‘Hope people will open their eyes.
‘Hope Luzon will give Mindanao peace.

that is not impossible..but to achieve that i believe that we should avoid having political dynasties...government belongs to the people and not only for those rich and powerful families/clans..
Achievement of Peace in Maguindanao
The Maguindanaos have a traditional culturalpractices too distinct from the "Non-Maguindanao" Tribe. They have their authentic historical root in terms of custom, belief and tradition handed down from the old-stone-age generation to the present Magui-generation. Exemplification by present Magui-generation of their culture may have some minor changes due to assimilation of foreign culture. But, such assimilation absolutely remains transitory in nature. Hence, all prescriptions by "Non-Magui-Filipinos" can be held and adopted as a guidance to fragile-peace.
For the sake of attempt to achieve lasting peace in resolving the prolonged and bitter feud (vendetta) of the Ampatuan and Mangodadatu clans, the Ampatuan and Mangodadatu clans are the ultimate cause to resolve their discord. The NEUTRAL RELATIVES of both clans must act as "GO-IN-BETWEEN" to bring the two clans into negotiating table for a lasting peace and harmony. To make this a reality, the National Government is an effecient cause to achieve lasting peace in Maguindanao province. Malacaniang must create an AD HOC PEACE COMMITTEE whose members must all come from the NEUTRAL RELATIVES of both clans with their authority to settle their discord by all means and at all costs. Solutions other than the recommendations of the NEUTRAL GO-IN-BETWEEN remains futile.

martial law is not the solution to achieve peace, it is very clear to us that more army's and police who were involved in brutal killings of civilians, media men and two human right lawyers, the high power fire arms of ampatuan "the monster" where it came from? it came from the Phil. army. some army and police itseft were also involved in maguindanao massacre. lahat ng tota ng mga Ampatuan "the monster"

can peace be achieved? its a beautiful dream and desire for all of us..that remains to be seen and made by a big turning point, crucial and radical...! pero habang ang gobierno natin ay walang pagbabago, mga namumuno ay tulad ni gma at ampatuan...we deserve this kind situation. we never learn and never change, so we are condemend to live in violence, corruption, murders and cold blood killings. yan gawain na ng sistema ng mga tao sa gobierno. walang hustisya dahil may mga ganid sa pera at mukhang perang abogado tulad ni fortun...mga pnp at army na binabayaran ng mga mapatuan na ngayon ay turned witnesses pagkatapos silang nakinabang din nuong panahon ng kahayupan ng mga diablo....dapat gentlemen, may paninindigan kayo at hindi bitbit ang b..... nyo ng mga puliticang gumagamit sa inyo. dapat kayo ang unang masama sa firing squad dahil taksil kayo sa sinumpaang tungkulin mga pulis at army...kayo ang mga tunay na terrorista kasama si gma at ampatuans. sana mga milf hindi rin mga bayaran ng mga ampatuans, hmmm i doubt, wala rin silang b..... at paninindigan. kapayapaan sa mindanao? i doubt, maski sa pinas as a whole... i doubt? sna lang....
