Corona's 'not intentional' mistakes in his SALNs

Chief Justice Renato Corona’s lawyers would like the public to believe that the under declarations and omissions in his SALNs (Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) are all “not intentional."

What the lawyers aren’t saying is that CJ Corona was a tax and corporate lawyer who once worked for two banks and for SGV & Company, the country’s largest auditing firm.

Former Supreme Court Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas, Corona’s lead counsel, argued last Thursday (Feb 2) that:

"To us, it’s our humble opinion your honor that if there may have been discrepancies, inaccuracies, incompleteness…(in his SALNs) these can be remedied after a review of the SALN is made. If it’s not intentional your honor, no criminal liability nor administrative liability is incurred by the filing official. The law of the matter is very clear."

Cuevas unwittingly provides the key to convicting Corona when he said – “if it’s not intentional…”

Using Cuevas’ arguments, this means that if CJ Corona intentionally made omissions and misdeclarations in his SALN, then he has both criminal and administrative liability.

Sir Cuevas is the ultimate hero here for convicting CJ!

Bring it on...keep the flame burning people...Strike the iron while it's hot! We deserve to know the truth do not hide the evidence but rather let it out so all we'll have no doubt in the process of this impeachment! I hope that CJ will not resign so once and for all we will know how unfit he is to hold the most powerful position in the judiciary. To you madam you're giving Filipino a favor, keep up the good work! and God bless!

AGREED

Good article. Keep exposing the truth Raissa. You rock!

Cuevas sealed Coronas fate

Less talk less mistakes, Cuevas in his eagerness to earn points did the opposite by admitting that there is indeed discrepancies to the SALN of his client. Intent is a non issue here since the mere filing of a defective SALN under oath consummated the violation of the law, and the person is liable either criminaly or administratively. Any sitting Chief Justice to be convicted of a minor infraction of any law, be it criminal or administrative is no longer fit to continue as CJ. The writer is absolutely correct in her article...bravo...
