“My husband often told me that the most important aspect that a leader should develop is his or her character. Hopefully, through this Emerging Leaders Camp, we will be able to develop more young Filipino leaders with a strong passion for good governance and public service.”
These were the words that Cong. Leni Robredo of Camarines Sur said during the official launching of the SEAOIL-Jesse Robredo Emerging Leaders Camp held last February 3,2014 at the SEAOIL Headquarters, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. This youth leadership training program which was named after the multi-awarded late DILG Secretary and long-time Mayor of Naga City will train almost 500 chosen college student leaders from 12 areas (4 areas in Luzon, 4 areas in Visayas and 4 areas in Mindanao) all over the Philippines.
“One of our company’s main thrusts is promoting good governance both in the public and private sector so it is very apt that we partner with the Jesse Robredo Foundation and the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership to help train and develop the future leaders of this country,” said Mark Yu, Chief Financial Officer of SEAOIL and President of SEAOIL Foundation.
The camp will run for 2.5 days and will highlight the leadership values and principles that Robredo espoused. Aside from the usual talks, the program will also provide an opportunity for the participants to also share their own leadership experiences and learn from each other. They will also be guided in terms of developing project proposals that are aimed at addressing social problems in their own communities.
At the end of the program, the participants will be asked to take a pledge to become effective, ethical and empowering leaders as they become known as Jesse Robredo Ambassadors of Good Governance.
As a fitting end of the launch activity, Glenn Yu, Chief Executive Officer of SEAOIL left this inspiring message for everyone: “Through this initiative, our company will continue to concretize and actualize our vision of fueling a better future not only for our customers and employees but more importantly, for our nation. We are very happy to be a catalyst towards developing better leaders in our communities.”
The camp will first be held in Davao City this coming April 9-11,2014. Among those who are expected to speak to and interact with the chosen participants are Robredo’s colleagues at Kaya Natin! namely, Davao City Councilors Mabel Sunga-Acosta and April Dayap, Board Member Shirlyn Macasarte-Villanueva of the Province of Cotabato and former Gov. Miguel Dominguez of the Province of Sarangani.
