Customers of Cebu Pacific won't have to pay fuel and insurance surcharges for all domestic flight bookings starting Wednesday, January 7.

In a statement, the Gokongwei-led budget carrier said it is removing the said surcharges to encourage higher passenger volume as it takes delivery of six brand new aircraft this year.

"This is part of our commitment to offer to the public the most affordable fares coupled with the newest planes. In fact, we have made air travel a viable option for those who would normally travel by bus or ferry," said Cebu Pacific spokesperson Candice Iyog.

Iyog added that passengers can now easily compare airfare with bus and ferry fares.

Cebu Pacific also reduced its fuel and insurance surcharge for select international routes. The airline slashed its Manila-Bangkok and Clark-Bangkok one-way surcharges from $80 to $50 and $80 to $60, respectively.

Manila-Osaka one-way surcharges, meanwhile, were lowered from $105 to $100 and Manila-Hong Kong surcharges from $45 to $40 per way.

Cebu Pacific has the most number of inter-island routes and connections in the country from its hubs in Clark, Manila, Cebu and Davao. It flies to 15 international cities and 27, soon to be 28, domestic destinations including Cebu-Siargao starting January 30.
