MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is interested to find out if the group of Victor Siman paid the correct income taxes to government arising from their reported sale of gold.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares bared that no less than Ronnie Habitan, Siman's alleged partner in a small-scale mining operation, admitted that they are engaged in the mining business.

Siman, along with 12 others, was killed in an alleged shootout with police and soldiers on Jan. 6 in Atimonan, Quezon. The incident is being probed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) under suspicion that it may have been a rubout.

The bureau had filed several cases of tax evasion with the Dept. of Justice (DOJ) against gold traders who either underdeclared their income from selling gold or those who did not pay any income tax at all.
