MANILA, Philippines – Gokongwei-owned Cebu Pacific is expecting 8 Airbus jets to be delivered this year as it prepares to launch more long-haul flights.

The budget airline, which currently has 48 planes, said 5 Airbus A-320s and 3 A-330s will be delivered this year taking it farther than its first long-haul destination Dubai.

Cebu Pacific wants to fly to European cities following Philippine Airlines (PAL), which returned to European skies after being dropped from an EU aviation blacklist.

Cebu Pacific recently agreed to buy Tigerair Philippines for $15-million (around P665 million) financed mainly via internally generated cash.

The takeover will add to Cebu Pacific’s flights as well as gaining Tigerair's slots at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and other crowded airports.
