Palace hits Noynoy over no-new-tax pledge
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang chided presidential candidate Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III of the Liberal Party over the promises he made to the business community on Thursday, which include refraining from imposing new taxes and increasing tax rates.
Gary Olivar, Palace deputy presidential spokesperson, said that what Aquino did was "unfair" to the public since these may only be empty promises once he gets elected.
He compared Aquino's no-new-tax pledge to what former United States President George H.W. Bush did when he accepted his nomination for the 1988 presidential elections.
His statement, "Read my lips: No new taxes", was said to have helped Bush greatly in winning the 1988 presidential elections. But once he took the highest position, Bush raised taxes as a way to curb the US budget deficit.
On Thursday, Aquino told members of the Makati Business Club that he would not impose new taxes or raise tax rates if elected president. He also promised to pursue the rationalization of fiscal incentives as part of efforts to plug revenue leaks and lower the budget deficit.
In an attempt to court the business community's support, he stressed that lower taxes is part of his "vision to transform our country."
The top corporate tax rate is 30%. Other taxes include a value-added tax (VAT), a real property tax, and an inheritance tax. In the most recent year, overall revenue as a percentage of GDP was 14%.
Despite political pressure, authorities did not repeal the VAT on petroleum products during the most recent economic slowdown. -- Report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News

If what the spokeperson stated has any truth in it, they should have raise more taxes to compensate the stolen goods, but that would reveal the other insertion....hahaha. NEW TAX-PLEDGE VS HINDI MAGNANAKAW PLEDGE
If we draw a comparative study on the favorable weight-result of NEW TAX-PLEDGE VERSUS HINDI MAGNANAKAW PLEDGE, I would say without doubt that "Hindi Magnanakaw Pledge" is the foremost among all other political campaign-pledges. Why resort to greater amount of taxes when the President is not CORRUPT? It only happens when the leader is INSATIABLE. Hence, more time to think on how to get more taxes from the Filipinos; an example is the VAT and EVAT and what more? If Malacaniang-GIBO wins, he might upgrade EVAT to MEVAT (i.e., Multiplied Value Added Tax); If Arroyo-Villar wins, he might upgrade it to TEVAT (i.e, Tripled Value Added Tax). I am sure who ever from the two Malacaniang Presidentiables(i.e., GIBO and VILLA) wins, the Filipino Peoples will remain suffering the excrutiating pains of multifaceted forms of CORRUPTION in Government, and of massive killings both in public scene and salvaging and/or disappearances. Ang galing ng speech ni Noynoy sa MBC ang dami nyang sinabi pero imposibleng magawa kasi sa tagal niya sa Congress at Senate 4 house bill at 2 house resolution lang ang nagawa pano pa kaya nya magagawa yung mga sinabi nya sa MBC?
Nanghihinayang ako sa TAX ko na binibigay tapos 4 na house bill at 2 house resolution lang ang nagawa ni Noynoy sa loob ng 9 years pano pa kaya ung mga sinasabi nya sa MBC.

Sino ang gustong ang susunod na pangulo ay mag-impose ng bagong buwis or kaya itaas ang rate ng mga buwis? Paki post lang ang tamang pangalan at tirahan. Imposing new taxes and raising the tax rates, say the EVAT from 12% to 15% must be the last recourse of the government, even if its purpose is for the development of the country. Tax-related corruptions must be addressed. How can you allow new taxes when government officials, like Bautista of Marina travels abroad every week, GMA's travels are mostly junket, Congressman supposedly attend conferences but end-up shopping and honeymooning, military generals are allowed to attend conferences to improve their skills when a month after, they are already retired, most government projects are BOT, government agencies buy new cars every two(2) years, national roads are repaired by placing asphalt overlay when rainy season is about to start, etc.
Everybody Loves No New Taxes!!!
What the heck, everybody even loves "No Taxes" at all. But can it be a reality to a third world country like ours? Before anybody answer this question, look at the mirror first. If you're a man, ask, "Can I bear A Child?". That's how realistic it can get, I'm not saying it can't be done though, but you may do a "transplant". To compare the Philippines to Canada or any progressive country, the best solution for you people to experience it, migrate to that country. Now, that is what I mean by "transplant". Not the medical, silly, that should cost you more in a national basis, than paying taxes, lol. But if only Noynoy will do it, no problemo, he's got money to burn. Lighten up, be smart and vote!
No need to raise taxes.
Well, what do you expect from the palace? They want more taxes just to waste or line their pockets. Noynoy is right. By improving tax collection, stemming corruption and keeping an eye on spending, there is no need for new taxes. It can be done with new leadership and new people managing the various government departments. Our ports are notoriously corrrupt and if fixed, can generate billions more taxes for the government.

What has Pres. Bush got to do with Noynoy? What a weak argument the Palace has.
By the way, since we are in the business of unfulfilled promises, why don't the Palace revisit the promise made my Gloria last December 30, 2003: "I will not run for president"
