Google officials injured by 'palayok' at launch event
MANILA, Philippines - Officials of tech giant Google were injured, albeit very minor, during the ceremonial hitting of a "palayok" (clay pot) at the event where the company announced it is opening a Philippine office.
Google's Philippine country manager Narciso Reyes sustained a small cut on the hand, while Southeast Asia general manager Julian Persaud got a small cut and bump on his forehead after the "palayok" incident.
Persaud flew in the country for the said event, wherein Google announced it is finally setting up shop in the Philippines with a new office in central Makati.
The two Google executives were joined by Manuel Quezon III, undersecretary at the Presidential Communications Development Strategic Planning Office, during the ceremonial hitting of the "palayok."
