MANILA, Philippines -  Around 13.26 million passengers flew on Cebu Pacific in 2012, an 11% increase from the previous year, the Gokongwei-led budget carrier said on Thursday.

Cebu Pacific attributed the higher number of passengers to the new domestic and international routes launched last year.

In 2012, the airline mounted direct flights from Manila to Hanoi, Siem Reap and Xiamen, as well as from Cebu to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. It also launched direct flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Cebu Pacific said it saw higher passenger growth in Malaysia (21%), Taiwan (22%), China (29%), Vietnam (30%) and Brunei (32%) last year, due to seat sales and tourism promotion.

The airline also reported strong growth from its Cebu hub (20%) and Davao hub (16%). It launched 10 domestic routes last year, including flights from Davao to Dipolog and from Zamboanga to Cagayan de Oro.

"The Philippines’ momentum when it comes to tourism buzz will be supported by Cebu Pacific’s expansion to more regions in the world," Candice Iyog, CEB VP for marketing and distribution, said in a statement.

In March, Cebu Pacific will launch twice weekly Manila-Bali (Denpasar) flights. In October, the airline will mount its first long-haul flight from Manila to Dubai.
