NEW YORK -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it will suspend the sales of some vehicles in the United States and Canada, as the materials used for their seat heaters do not meet U.S. fire-resistance standards.

The vehicles, including Camry and Corolla sedans as well as the Avalon midsize sedan, Sienna minivan, and Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks, were produced in North America and Mexico since August 2012, according to Toyota.

Toyota said there is no safety risk. "There have been no reports globally of any related incidents in the field with units in operation," it said.

Toyota is preparing to replace the materials.

While it has not been reported how many cars in question have been sold so far, none were exported to Japan.
