MANILA, Philippines – Sales of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines in January jumped 13 percent compared to sales in the same period last year, according to a report by Philippine distributor Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI).

Hyundai sales in January reached 2,243 units, up from last year’s 1,992 units.

However, compared to December 2013, sales saw a decline of 7 percent in January 2014. Hyundai sold 2,416 units in December 2013.

Hyundai’s passenger cars segment led by Eon posted a 17 percent jump in sales with 1,447 units sold last month compared to 1,236 units sold in January 2013.

Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales, meanwhile, saw a 5 percent growth with 796 units sold against the 756 units sold in January 2013 driven by positive gains and timely arrival of the Grand Starex, Santa Fe and H-100.

"2014 presents a new opportunity for Hyundai to grow fonder into the hearts of Filipinos. A combination of more steady supply and the introduction of Hyundai's newest global models bode well for a stellar year for the brand," said HARI president and chief executive officer Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

HARI is set to launch the Grand Starex, the new i10 and the diesel variant of the Accent hatchback this year.
