MANILA – International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) will continue to operate Tacloban Port for another six months to sustain smooth port operations amid reconstruction efforts, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

PPA General Manager Juan Sta. Ana lauded ICTSI for agreeing to extend its contract, which guarantees the sustainability of port operations in the area.

“I commend and appreciate the gesture showed by ICTSI and Pilipinas Shell in helping the PPA aid the reconstruction process not only of Tacloban Port but most especially the entire region,” Sta. Ana said.

ICTSI will continue to operate the port using its own equipment as part of the agreement.

ICTSI is using 12 forklifts, seven generator sets, six tower lights to support night operations, reach stackers for mobility of cargo and payloaders at the port.

The PPA tapped the services of ICTSI after the equipment of Leyte Integrated Port Services, Inc. was damaged during the typhoon on November 8.

Pilipinas Shell, meanwhile, also agreed to donate another P6 million worth of fuel, increasing its total donation to the port at P12 million.
