MANILA - The government is already fast-tracking efforts in addressing the lack of power supply in Mindanao, the Department of Energy said Friday.

"We have projected that Mindanao will have additional power by 2015 as indicated by committed projects in the region," Energy chief Carlos Jericho Petilla said in a statement.

"The challenge now is how to address the power situation from now until 2015," he continued.

The DOE said that together with the Mindanao Development Authority, they are studying options to address the power crisis in Mindanao and such plans will soon be presented to President Benigno Aquino III and the public.

Businessmen in Mindanao earlier asked the President to use his emergency powers to resolve the power crisis in Mindanao as the region has been experiencing rotating brownouts, affecting productivity.

Electoral candidates have also voiced out concerns that the power situation in the region may affect the outcome of the 2013 polls.
