MANILA, Philippines -- SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC), a unit of tycoon Henry Sy’s mall and banking conglomerate, now has four hotels in its portfolio.

The hospitality firm said it started operations of the Park Inn by Radisson Davao on March 22.

It is the first “next generation” mid-scale Park Inn by Radisson hotel brand to be established in Asia Pacific, SMHCC said.

“We are excited with this opening of Park Inn by Radisson in Davao as we bring to the market a world-class hotel brand with a very contemporary and vibrant look and feel,” said SMHCC president Elizabeth Sy.

Sy said the conglomerate stands to benefit from the upbeat outlook on the Philippine economy and tourism.

The 204-room hotel is second Radisson hotel in the Philippines that is managed by one of the world’s largest hotel chains, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.

Park Inn by Radisson Davao is located beside the SM Lanang Premier Mall and the SMX Convention Center in Davao.

SMHCC said the hotel’s rooms and suites offer beautiful landscape views of the islands and highlands in Davao City.

It also features a spacious lobby lounge which is a venue for socializing and relaxation.

Local specialties and classic dishes are highlighted in the hotel. Other amenities of the hotel are meeting rooms, a swimming pool, a pool bar and lounge and a fitness center.

Aside from Park Inn by Radisson, the SM conglomerate also owns and operates Radisson Blu in Cebu, Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay and Pico Sands at Hamilo’s Pico de Loro Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas.

SMHCC is still expanding its footprint in the hotel industry as it signed a management agreement with Hilton Worldwide for the latter to manage the Conrad Manila hotel at the Mall of Asia complex which is scheduled to open in mid-2015.

SMHCC is the leading conventions operator in the country through SMX Convention Center that now has two outlets at the Mall of Asia Complex and Davao, and its Megatrade Halls in SM Megamall and SM City Cebu.
