DTI Business Centers to open in select SM Malls
MANILA – The Department of Trade and Industry has signed a memorandum together with SM Malls for the establishment of DTI Business Service Centers in different SM malls in the country.
The signing took place during the opening ceremonies of the Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair last March 26, 2014 at the SM Megatrade Halls 1-3 at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
Among those present during the event were Trade Secretary Gregory L. Domingo, Trade Undersecretary Zeny Maglaya, and SM Malls EVP Ricky Lim.
The DTI Business Centers will be initially put up in 24 SM Malls, particularly in selected SM Malls in Metro Manila, Bacoor and Dasmarinas in Cavite, Santa Rosa and Calamba in Laguna, and Marilao in Bulacan.
The project aims to encourage businesses to formalize operations and to ease processing of business name applications and other services.
From 2008 to 2010, DTI introduced the e-business name registration system which allowed online registration and allowed online payment systems through G-Cash. It was implemented in 32 malls and was able to process around 8,870 business name registration.
However, it encountered difficulties due to the volume of users and had to be shut down.
The system has been improved for the re-launching of the service. The DTI Business Centers shall be using cloud-based systems and e-payments shall be available through G-Cash and Bancnet.
