MANILA -- Cebu Pacific Air on Thursday has cancelled a number of flights to and from Cagayan de Oro after the government ordered the transfer of operations to the new Laguindingan International Airport.

Cebu Pacific said in a statement the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines ordered airlines to abandon all operations at the old Lumbia airport starting April 30.

But since CAAP is still in the process of acquiring runway lights for the Laguindingan airport, flights can only operate during the day, thus forcing Cebu Pacific to cancel flights from April 30 until further notice.

"[Cebu Pacific] has already begun contacting and re-accommodating more than 22,500 passengers affected by the flight cancellations and flight schedule changes," the budget carrier said.

"It is also sending out emails to more than 53,000 guests regarding the airport change in Cagayan de Oro," Cebu Pacific added.

The figures cover flight schedules from April 30 to July 31, 2013.

Cebu Pacific said cancelled flights include: Cebu to Butuan flights (5J219/220); Butuan to Davao (5J795/796); Manila to Cagayan de Oro (5J395/396); and Bacolod to Cagayan de Oro (5J201/200).

Passengers may reach the airline at (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-8888 for further details.
