MANILA, Philippines – With Flores de Mayo only a week away, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) looked into the income tax declarations of the top 10 flower shops in Metro Manila based on a list by lifestyle guide website Spot.ph.

According to the BIR’s latest Tax Watch ad, only five of the 10 flower shops declared income tax dues for 2012.

These flower shops are L. Carlos Florist Inc., Tecson Flowers, Flower Farm, Spruce Floral Designs, and Teddy Manuel.

L. Carlos Florist Inc. declared the highest income tax due in 2012 at P117,538.58.

Spot.ph said L. Carlos Florist opened in 1911 and is “among the established flower shops in Manila.”

It was followed by Tecson Flowers with P92,570.87, Flower Farm with P42,600.18, Spruce Floral Designs with P6,993, and Teddy Manuel with P1,463.

BIR said Teddy Manuel “not only arranges bouquets but also manages weddings.”

The ad also said that Designer Blooms, which has the most registered branches of more than 40, did not file an income tax return (ITR) for 2012.

Blue Barn and Flowers by Sylvia also did not file ITRs in 2012, the ad said.

Specialty Florists and Fruits in Bloom, meanwhile, do not have TINs based on the BIR’s preliminary findings.
