Online job site lists ways to become more employable
As the global economic crisis continues to provide less job opportunities, people should work even harder to make themselves more employable, online recruitment firm JobsDB.com said Thursday.
JobsDB Philippines Inc. Managing Director Jayjay Viray said Filipinos should make it a point to acquire new skills to give them an edge over other applicants. Viray said jobseekers can go to institutions such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for affordable training programs.
“These trainings are good investments for every jobseeker as they help in their holistic development,” Viray said in a statement.
Viray said there are employment opportunities in the fields of information technology, retail, manufacturing, tourism, health care, and accounting. He added that opportunities are also abundant in the center industry despite the present decline of some key players in the business process outsourcing sector.
Although keeping up with trends of job opportunities is a favorable scheme, Viray said jobseekers should not limit themselves to learning the skills of current in-demand jobs.
"Jobseekers need to fully develop their skills to adapt in the competitive arena of job hunting," Viray explained.
Viray also advised applicants to become more ingenious by trying all possible options in their job-hunting. He said jobseekers can participate in job fairs as well as look for opportunities in online recruitment sites such as JobsDB.com.
“Global recession does not equate with lost opportunities. There can be many varying job opportunities for jobseekers but it is up to them to have the motivation to grasp these opportunities,” Viray said.
The National Statistics Office has earlier reported that as of January this year, the country's unemployment rate had gone up to 7.7 percent from 7.4 percent. The government is expecting the country's jobless rate to increase in the next four months due to the influx of graduating students.
