BIR to launch shame campaign vs delinquent taxpayers
Delinquent tax payers beware.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is set to publish names of tax payers who do not settle their accounts receivables and delinquent accounts with the tax agency.
After missing its tax collection target in the first quarter by P10 billion, the BIR is finalizing a revenue regulation that would set the tone of its shame campaign aimed to translate into higher tax collections.
The shame campaign would likely involve the publication of the names of deliquent tax payers in a newspaper or in the agency's website. The finance secretary would have to approve the list of names to be published.
Focus is on tax payers who failed to pay the correct amount--assessed voluntarily or by the BIR--within the time prescribed.
The list would include the names of the taxpayers, trade or business names, taxpayer identification numbers, registered address, business address, and taxable years.
Taxpayers with offer of compromise settlement or abatement of penalties or those religiously paying under an approved installment plan would not be included in the list to be publicized by the agency.
Likewise, taxpayers whose with delinquent accounts are still pending resolutions with various courts would not be included in the list.
