MANILA, Philippines – Lopez-led Energy Development Corp. (EDC) is increasing the capacity of its Burgos wind project in Ilocos Norte.

It is also raising the total project investment cost by $150 million.

In a disclosure on Friday, EDC said it has signed on for the installation of an additional 21 large scale V90 wind turbines.

“This raises the total project investment cost to $450 million from $300 million, and once fully completed, increases the total generating capacity to 150 megawatts (MW) from 87 MW," the company said.

The additional turbines, which form part of the second phase of the Burgos wind power project, with a total capacity of 63 MW were sourced from Denmark-based Vestas.

The firm's order for the additional large scale V90 turbines forms part of the second phase of the Burgos wind power project.

The expansion of the Burgos wind project will make it the country’s biggest to date.

It is located at a 600-hectare site in Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

Vestas, meanwhile, said it has partnered with EDC in the delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, associated civil and electrical works as well as maintenance service for 10 years.

The wind turbines will be delivered beginning the second quarter of this year.
