PLDT eyes Alabang, Sta Rosa as sites for new HQ
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. is looking at Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Alabang, Muntinlupa as possible sites for the company's planned campus-type complex.
PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the company is in talks with property developers in the south of Metro Manila, since it needs between 10 to 15 hectares of land for the project.
"We are looking at something in Alabang and Sta. Rosa," he said.
PLDT is planning to build a complex to serve as the home of its headquarters, as well as other units, similar to those built by Google and Facebook.
"The problem is the size of the property needed is not available in Makati or Metro Manila so we have to move south. So we are talking with some property developers about getting 10 hectares to 15 hectares,” Pangilinan said.
However, PLDT would still need the approval of its employees before it moves its headquarters.
"Some people (PLDT employees) live in the North (of Metro Manila) so they have to travel all the way to Sta. Rosa or Alabang,” Pangilinan said.
Earlier, PLDT president Napoleon Nazareno said they are looking at patterning the campus after Google's complex called "Googleplex" in California.
The telecommunications giant is looking for a new HQ for the group's operations, which would allow it to save as much as P90 million in rental payments.
One of the options earlier studied by PLDT was the acquisition of the Alphaland Building owned by former Trade Minister Roberto Ongpin along Ayala Ave in Makati City.
