BIR runs after delinquent taxpayers in QC, Manila

MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed several criminal complaints against delinquent taxpayers in Quezon City and Manila.

The sole proprietress of Wangler Commercial, Gigi Donaire Chua, was charged with willful failure to pay taxes under the tax code.

The BIR said Chua was sued for deficiency tax liabilities amounting to P329.79 million for taxable year 2007.

Construction firm Vazquez Corp. and its president Edgardo Vazquez were also charged for violating the tax code.

Vazquez and his firm were assessed deficiency tax liabilities for taxable year 2008 in the sum of P84.35 million.

A delinquent individual taxpayer from Manila, Benedicto Pasco Caguimbal, is also facing a criminal complaint for willful failure to pay taxes.

Caguimbal, who is engaged in the business of construction using the trade name Caguimbal Electrical Works, was sued for his deficiency tax liabilities for taxable year 2010 in the aggregate amount of P6.45 million.

Meanwhile, a builder from Laoag City, Constantino Llanes Jr., was charged for willful attempt to evade or defeat tax, deliberate failure to file and pay income tax return (ITR), and willful failure to file and pay 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarterly value added tax (VAT) returns for taxable year 2009.

BIR said Llanes failed to file his ITR for taxable year 2009, as well as his VAT returns for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of the same taxable year.

He also filed his 1st quarter VAT return for taxable year 2009 declaring the amount of only P339,852.23 as his gross revenue, the BIR added.

Llanes was assessed an aggregate deficiency tax liability of P9.95 million, inclusive of surcharges and interests.
