MANILA -- Hotel and leisure company Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide said its bid to re-enter the Philippine market is on track using its global brands Westin and Sheraton, and gave indications that it will pursue more projects here.

“We are pleased to partner with Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. [TIHGI] to bring our two world-class brands and services, Sheraton and Westin, to visitors and guests in Manila. We are also confident that our re-entry into the market will pave ways for greater expansion in the near future. These two hotels in the Philippines are proceeding on schedule,” Chuck Abbott, regional vice president of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Southeast Asia, told the BusinessMirror in an e-mail.

The Westin Manila Bayshore is slated for opening in mid-2016 and will be part of TIHGI’s Resorts World Bayshore in the Entertainment City in Parañaque. The said development will offer 600 guest rooms.

The Sheraton Manila Hotel, on the other hand, is scheduled to rise in early-2017 at the Resorts World Manila complex in Pasay.

Abbott declined to give investment figures for the two developments. He, however, said the Asia-Pacific region “continues to fuel Starwood Hotels’ growth” and the leisure company continues to see great potential in the growing Philippines market.

“Specifically, growth in Southeast Asia is very exciting for us, especially in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, where demand for hotels outpaces supply. Starwood pipeline is robust in this region, with 20 more hotels to open in the next three years,” Abbott added.

According to the executive, in 2013, Starwood Hotels and Resorts worldwide opened 79 hotels globally with a third of the total located in Southeast Asia.

Both the Westin and the Sheraton brands are categorized by Abbott as belonging in the “upper-upscale” brand sector, and are part of the nine-brand portfolio of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc.

Starwood has nearly 1,200 properties in 100 countries and 181,400 employees at its owned and managed properties.
