MANILA, Philippines - Chevrolet has taken diesel engine building to new heights as it introduced the new Duramax engine.

The Duramax engine is made of premium grade materials that are geared to promote durability and optimum performance. Its pistons are made of cast-aluminum and coated with graphite that reduces friction and power losses. The four-cylinder engine is built to endure the harshest of driving conditions, and is tested in the extreme environments of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America.

The Duramax engines are equipped with a high-pressure common rail fuel injection system and pneumatic & position feedback controlled turbocharger; with the 2.8L variant sporting a variable geometry feature.

The first Duramax engines are found in the all-new Chevrolet Colorado, which will be Chevrolet’s first offering in the pick-up segment since The Covenant Car Company (TCCCI) took over management of the brand in the Philippines.

The Colorado will sport both 2.5L and 2.8L variants of the Duramax engine, and will be available in both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains with Automatic and Manual transmission options. The 2.8L automatic variant is capable of producing 180hp @ 3800rpm of power, 470Nm @ 2000rpm of torque making it the best in its class.

General Motors is committed to ensuring manufacturing of Duramax engines will be of top quality, the company has built a $200 million, 54,275-sq.m assembly plant in Rayong, Thailand.

The GM assembly plant is equipped with the latest engineering technologies including precision lasers and computer guided gauge sequences to produce up to 120,000 engines in a year. Key personnel went through extensive technical training in Japan, Korea and Germany to make sure that the Duramax engines are handled only by highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals.
