PH, Japan ink ICT cooperation agreement
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Tokyo, Japan.
The MOU was signed by Science and Technology Secretary Mario G. Montejo and Japan’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshitaka Shindo on Monday.
The agreement is aimed at accelerating development and integration in the field of ICT between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Cooperation (MIC) of Japan.
This is in light of the rapid changes in ICT, as well as the Philippines' adoption of Japan's Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T) standard as the country's standard for digital TV.
The agreement also covers cooperation for the implementation of the DTTB, development and usage of information and communications technology in disaster risk reduction and management programs, formulation of ICT policies on cyber and information securities, enhancement of cyber security programs and protection against illegal cyber activities, and promotion of a secure online environment for public services (e-commerce and e-government).
