DOTC finalizing alignment plans for P135-B 'subway'

MANILA – Alignment routes for the P135 billion Mass Transit Loop System are now being finalized, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said.

Transportation Secretary Jun Abaya said the agency is currently negotiating with directors of the Manila Golf and Country Club so that the underground rail system could pass through McKinley instead of Kalayaan.

"We are talking to Manila Golf for approval. The Kalayaan route is now the ideal right of way due to the right turns," Abaya said.

The underground rail system will pass through either the 26th St. or 32nd St. inside the Bonifacio Global City.

If the system traverses 26th St., it will have the following stations:

Market-Market,
McKinley Parkway (Bonifacio Global City),
5th Ave. (Bonifacio Global City),
Ayala/EDSA,
Ayala Triangle,
Makati Post Office,
PNR Buendia, Buendia/Taft Ave.,
World Trade Center,
Mall of Asia,
EDSA/Taft Ave.

But if it passes through 32nd St., the stations will be located in the following:

Market-Market,
St. Luke’s Medical Center (Bonifacio Global City),
MRT-3 Buendia Station,
Ayala/EDSA,
Ayala Triangle,
Makati Post Office,
PNR Buendia,
Buendia/Taft Ave.,
World Trade Center,
Mall of Asia,
EDSA/Taft Ave.

The mass rail system aims to address traffic congestion in Makati, Pasay, and Taguig and improve inter-city linkage of business districts in Metro Manila.

The proposed 20-kilometer project involves the construction of a 16 kilometer-tunnel and 4-kilometer elevated railway, and 11 stations—5 of which are located underground, 2 are elevated and 4 interchanges.

The DOTC earlier said it may seek project approval from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in the second or third quarter of the year, after which the government will bid out the project in the second quarter of 2015.
