MANILA, Philippines – A Filipina entrepreneur based in Bohol gave her family's home-made native chocolate or tablea business a boost through online marketing.

Dalareich Polot, who was named the first winner of the Young Women Entrepreneur Bootcamp, said their tablea business was started by her grandmother and later passed on to her mother.

When Polot graduated with a degree in computer engineering, she helped improve the brand by packaging it with a cyber appeal.

Polot put up a website, and a Facebook page to expand the reach of the native product.

She also changed the packaging and design of the brand.

From the simple plastic packaging similar to what is used for “ice candy,” Dalareich Tableya products are now presented in creative, homemade boxes designed by Polot herself.

“Sabi nga nila, very nice ‘yung packaging kasi very good for pasalubong especially Bohol is known for the Chocolate Hills,” Polot told Mornings@ANC.

Dalareich Tableya products are being supplied to several supermarkets in Bohol and Cebu, and some coffee shops in Manila.

The small family business has also been getting online orders from Korea, US, Australia, Canada, and Singapore as well as from Filipinos working overseas.

“Technology and business is a good combination. Traditional marketing is okay pero almost everyone is going online,” said Polot.

Polot recently came from a scholarship in Belgium where she learned new techniques in chocolate making.

“I’m so proud na sa Philippines ako galing and my business is tablea. When I introduced myself to them, sabi ko talaga I’m from the Philippines and a pure Boholena,” she said.

She said is planning to open a small chocolate café in her hometown of Tagbilaran to showcase what she learned about cocoa and chocolate processing.

“I believe sa law of attraction. If you want something, the whole world will support you in your goal and aside from that, of course prayer, hard work and be positive in whatever you do in life,” she said.
