ABS-CBNmobile subscribers can use KakaoTalk for free
MANILA, Philippines – South Korea's largest mobile messaging app KakaoTalk is offering free unlimited chat and call services to ABS-CBNmobile subscribers, Kakao Philippines country manager Jean Lee said.
Lee said that from July 7 to October 10, users of ABS-CBNmobile can make calls, send text messages, and share photos and videos through the app.
The free service can be used without WiFi or internet data connection.
“Our customers don’t have to worry about mobile internet charges because there aren’t any. Even if you don’t have WiFi or data load, you can still use Kakao,” said Carlo Katigbak, president of ABS-CBN Convergence.
“We are offering Kakao for free so that more people can try it and discover how much more fun it is to communicate with each other through Kakao,” he added.
KakaoTalk is a free mobile messaging service for other networks, but requires WiFi or data to access.
Since its launch in 2010, the app has developed into a social platform that offers a wide range of content and services including business marketing, commerce, games, digital content and fashion.
Kakao Philippines’ marketing head Mano Huh said it expects to see growth in its user base with the exclusive partnership with ABS-CBNmobile.
“We share a common goal, we both want to reach out to the country and that’s why we thought ABS-CBNmobile is the right partner for us,” Huh said.
“We are getting a solid growth. We’ve been very big on TV with our endorsers. We’ve been gaining solid user base here in the Philippines,” he added.
Popular love team Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, as well as pop star Sarah Geronimo and South Korean group BigBang are among the endorsers of KakaoTalk.
“Hopefully, we will be able to extend it for more free KakaoTalk. We hope this is going to be a very successful campaign, hopefully we will try to extend it for as long as we can,” said Huh.
ABS-CBNmobile, a joint venture between ABS-CBN Corp. and Globe, is also offering exclusive ABS-CBN content aside from messaging, internet and call services.
Launched in November 2013, ABS-CBNmobile attracted 300,000 subscribers in its first five months of operation.
The telecom provider aims to get 1 million subscribers by end-2014 and 2 million by 2015.
