MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III has appointed former Negros Occidental governor Daniel "Bitay" Lacson chairman of state pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

Lacson is a former president of the Philippine National Bank during the term of President Corazon Aquino. He recently campaigned for Aquino and Liberal Party vice-presidential Mar Roxas in the May elections.

He served as governor of Negros Occidental from 1986 to 1992 and founded Project Dunganon, a micro-enterprise that has 70,000 members.

In 1998, Lacson was presented the Golden Heart Presidential Award for his services to the community and as presidential adviser for rural development to President Fidel Ramos.

He is chairman emeritus of the Negros Navigation Company and is a founding chairman of the Negros Business Forum.

Lacson's so-called "banking"

Lacson's so-called "banking" experience at PNB was just to protect the interest of the sugar-barons.

What happened to the banker?

In an earlier news - http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/06/29/10/banker-will-head-gsis-says-... - it was reported that a banker was going to be appointed as new head of GSIS to replace Garcia. Ex-Gov. Lacson is not a banker. Landlord yan at old pulitiko pa. Mukhang nagka-pulitikahan dito!

The biggest problem, as far as GSIS members are concerned, is the crazy and confused computerized system. I don't know how ex-Gov. Lacson will resolve that. Ano kaya ang nagyari sa banker? Balita ko pa naman, IT was among the strenght of that banker.
