MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Manila Electric Co. on Friday said rotating brownouts will continue in some parts of Metro Manila and southern Luzon, two days after typhoon "Glenda" hit the country.

"A rotating brownout that will last for about 5-6 hours occurred starting 7:50 a.m. due to insufficient power supply. Affected areas include portions of Manila, QC, Bulacan, Cavite, Las Piñas, Batangas, and Laguna," Meralco said on its Facebook page.

In an interview on DZMM, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said as of 7 a.m. around 11 percent or 290,681 Meralco customers still have no power.

Franchise-wide, around 27.5 percent or 1.468 million still have no power.

"Outside of Metro Manila but within the Meralco franchise area, for example in Batangas 65 percent pa ang out, Bulacan mga 8.8 percent, Cavite a little over half, 52 percent, Laguna 48 percent and Metro Manila 11 percent. Quezon medyo mabigat pa 99.9 percent and Rizal mga 40 percent...Overall, nasa 27.5 percent ang kailangan pa i-restore as far as our customers are concerned," Zaldarriaga said.

Meanwhile, Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla said the rotating brownouts will continue, as power plants downed by "Glenda" gradually return online.

In an interview on ANC's Headstart, Petilla said they began firing up power plants in southern Luzon on Friday morning.

He explained adjustments must still be made until the plants stabilize, which means there could still be more power interruptions.

Petilla reiterated power in Metro Manila is expected to back 100 percent by 10 p.m. on Friday.
