MANILA, Philippines - Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima said on Monday the government "will be opportunistic" on its planned global peso bond issue, and hopes to issue the bonds this year.

He said the size of the issue would depend on market conditions.

National Treasurer Roberto Tan earlier said the government was looking to fund an increased budget deficit this year by issuing global peso bonds and retail treasury bonds.
