MANILA – Eight companies are interested in submitting bids for the Laguna Lakeshore expressway dike project, Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center executive director Cosette Canilao said.

Local companies that bought bid documents include Ayala Land Inc., Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), Megaworld Corp., GT Capital Holdings Inc., and Minerales Industrias Corp.

The Philippine units of foreign firms that also bought bid documents are France’s Egis SA, Australia’s Leighton Contractors, and Malaysia’s Muhibbah Engineering Berhad.

Interested parties were given until October 16 to submit prequalification documents.

The P123 billion project is so far the largest public private partnership (PPP) project of the Aquino administration.

The project, which was approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board chaired by President Aquino on June 19, involves the construction of a 47-kilometer flood control dike and a six-lane expressway from Taguig to Los Banos, Laguna.

It aims to address the flooding situation in southern Metro Manila and Laguna, improve the Laguna Lake’s environmental condition, and promote economic activities through the efficient transport of goods and people.

The project also aims to open business opportunities and a residential district in the reclaimed areas.
