MANILA, Philippines – Around 15,000 new workers are being sought by call centers, information technology (IT) corporations, sales and marketing firms, and human resources companies at an ongoing job fair in Makati City.

The event, which is being held at the Glorietta Mall, has attracted more than 4,000 applicants as of Thursday, according to organizer JobStreet.Com.

“Malaki ang chance na makakuha ng trabaho dito kasi meron kang direct interaction sa mga employers. Talagang mabebenta mo sarili mo,” said JobStreet.Com assistant marketing manager Raffy Vicente in an interview with ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol”.

He said call center and business process outsourcing companies taking part in the event are offering a total of 3,150 job openings. The other available positions are in IT (2,100), sales and marketing (1,650), and human resources (1,350).

Vicente said the companies are hiring employees on the spot.

Nearly 1,000 openings are also available for welders, electricians, carpenters, and engineers who want to work abroad.

Some companies taking part in the fair, which will be held until Friday, are looking for Web developers, animators, sales representatives, and online English tutors.

“I do suggest na mag-attend sila ng mga job fair kasi marami naman talagang trabaho sa Pilipinas. Kailangan lang nilang hanapin,” Infinity Support human resources officer Amanda Escanler said.

if californians can live with

if californians can live with a more or less $400/month salary, then they can have those jobs.

Te Philippine media is not doing their part to improve the image of their country and some of them love to glorify horrible stories.

Exactly my point

Both Americans and Filipinos are being exploited by the corporate fatcats for profit. They just want to squeeze every dollar that they can from everybody ----- to boost revenue so they can look good on the quarterly earnings reports to the shareholders and bump up their bonuses. Meanwhile, middle-class Americans can't pay their mortgages, county property tax collections drop and cities have to lay off thousands of police, firefighters, teachers, librarians, roads go unpaved, the American standard of living drops like a rock. Gordon Gecko was right - GREED is good - for the very few at the top.

Who is to blame, really?

In a way, I don't blame Pinoys for taking these jobs away from unemployed Californians (currently the jobless rate is 12.9% statewide and ~24% in the Bay Area). I blame the bloodsucking leeches who have outsourced American jobs overseas so they can squeeze more corporate profits from their underpaid foreign workers in China, India, Russia, Ireland, and the Philippines. Hooray for corporate greed!
