MANILA, Philippines - Over 6,000 Filipinos have sent their applications to the Bureau of Customs in hopes of getting a job.

The BOC said its Internal Administration Group has received 6,013 applications for the 1,056 plantilla positions available at the main office and various collection districts around the country.

This number did not include applicants who did not meet the basic requirements like Civil Service Eligibility, those who submitted applications beyond the August 6 deadline and those who sent applications via email.

The BOC-IAG said most of the applicants are from Luzon with 4,364, while 702 came from the Visayas and 947 applicants are from Mindanao.

The applications are now being screened to determine if the applicant met the minimum qualifications, such as education, experience, training, and eligibility of the position applied.

Those who passed the initial screening will be notified via text message or email notice from BOC between August 18 to 24.

They will have to take the pre-employment, general ability examination to be conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on August 31.

Those who passed the CSC exam will then have to take aptitude and psychometric tests determined to measure their personality, interest, aptitude, and values.

After passing the aptitude and psychometric tests, applicants would then take competency-based tests crafted by the BOC which will further test the fitness of applicants to perform the duties of specific positions.

Applicants of the Intelligence and Enforcement groups will also undergo physical fitness test.

The BOC currently has about 3,600 employees, about half of its actual plantilla size of about 7,000, which means most employees have double duties.
